DEMOCRATS REVEAL NATIONAL SECURITY AGENDA....YAWN

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate revealed their long awaited National Security agenda today that is full of....ah, well nothing! This long touted , "plan, " reveals nothing new and actually rehashes much of what they have said over the last year. They plan to, "eliminate, " Osama Bin Laden without any substance as to how other than increasing the number of spys and Special Forces. Incidentally later this afternoon the Dems backed away from the word, "eliminate." I guess it was just to harsh for their taste. The next phase of this, "brilliant, "plan calls for the, "responsible redeployment, " of the 132, 000 troops in Iraq with Iraqi forces and the Iraq government taking on more responsibility of their own country. In truth this is a rehash of the old, "cut and run, " idea that John Murtha has been whining about since they gave a timeline of this year. Funny, I thought that the Iraqis taking on more responsibility in their own country was already under way! They have also promised to rebuild the military, though there is not the first bit of evidence that the military needs rebuilding. Actually our troops are doing a great job and the weapons and machines that they are using seem to be working out rather nicely. Even the military is unaware that they need, "rebuilding." The Dems also plan for this country to be completely energy independent in 15 years, yet offer no form of ending the dependence other than touting, "alternative forms of energy." I guess nuclear energy, drilling in ANWAR and the Gulf which they have fought tooth and nail is out of the question in their energy plan, pity! If this is not political grand standing in a election year at its worst than a better example will never be seen. I hope they don't really believe that this proves that they are the party that is, "tough on National Security." I'll give them this hearing Nancy Polosi and Harry Reid reveal this , "new, " agenda was a great laugh in an otherwise dull day. Look out Jay Leno, you may be replaced by House and Senate leaders...then again NBC would't want the ratings to drop that much!

I'm glad that the Dems put it out in public on paper. Now when election time comes around, all we have to do is pull their voting records and compare THAT to their plan. Prove them to be the liars that we know they are.

Day 1660 and still no bin Laden. 2300 plus American deaths, $250 billion spent, and civil war in Iraq. Growing terrorist havens in Afghanistan (again) and Africa. Warrantless wiretapping of American citizens in contravention of the law.

We are still a long way from November and a lot of things will happen between now and then. Ultimately, the choice will be, are we on track or not. We'll see in November.

Dem plan, Real Security: 3 pages English, 3 pages Spanish.

Republican plan, The National Security Strategy: 53 pages English, 0 (zero) pages Spanish.

Note the Presidents plan came out weeks prior to this Democratic book report on the NSS2006.

1) State-of-the-art military
-Give me a break, everyone knows that republicans spend money on defense and democrats spend it on social programs.

2) Protective gear and Intel
[pg. 23,43 of NSS]
-Once that problem surfaced everything was done to correct it.
-President Bush was forced to deal with the Intelligence Community that the Clinton Administration slaughtered in cuts, changes, and putting road blocks in the way of gaining person to person intel.

3) GI Bill of Rights
-All agree with that. The best is done and more progress is being made.

4) Strengthen National Guard
-Really? How are you going to supply them any different than the Republicans?

5) Eliminate Osama
-Really? You are? So right now the boots on the ground are kicking back and not trying?

6) Special Forces
-Once again I would reference pg. 43 of NSS2006 already been said.

Ya know, I was going to go point by point to prove many of the points that the Democrats now proclaim as their new key to success is pre-dated by Republican strategy.

But why should I argue the points? The Security Plan by the democrats is shorter than the instructions on using my alarm clock!

I concede they are both in English and Spanish.

Like I said, we will see in November. Voters can choose to stay the course and hope for the best, or go in a different direction.

MDCons - Do you have a link for your FISA judge testimony that you referred to? I hadn't heard anything about it, but I am interested. I know one FISA judge resigned in protest back in December.

Thanks for the link. The article cited clearly does not give blanket support for the legality of Bush's warrantless wiretapping.

We know that one of the current FISA judges resigned in protest of the warrantless wiretapping amid questions of the legality of the program.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=1428853

The issue is not even close to resolved. More hearings and further briefings of Congress will help shed light on what is going on.

I have no idea how this will end. The reason this story has legs at all is that there are Republicans that are concerned about expanded Presidential powers. That is why there are hearings and talk about changing the law to make warrantless wiretapping legal.

As I have said in the past, I don't want any President - Democrat or Republican - to have such broad power that is immune from oversight or review. Whether Bush is using the power wisely or not is not the issue. The larger issue is that a President with such power is dangerous to American ideals.

Rob,
Do you think that possibly (might I suggest), just possibly, the NSA-TSP has anything to do with the fact that for nearly 5 years we have not seen an attack on US soil?

This will be a dead-end argument between us, since my feeling is pretty simple... You cannot protect "American ideals" if America is now just rubble.

This doesn't involve stopping people at state lines and asking them for their papers. As much as everyone against it wants to make it into a violation of rights...it isn't. Of course everything is a "right" to the left. Except for the rights of a fetus etc.

Go to 3rd world countries where women have no rights, where you lose your hand for stealing without even a trial. Tell those people that you are upset because you think it is a "violation of your rights" because the Government will listen to your phone conversation if there is a link to terrorism.

My guess is that, in the words of a man, they “would [not] feel your pain.”

No, actually I don't think warrantless wiretapping has anything to do with not being attacked. After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 8 years passed without incident.

Terrorists who are hell bent on attacking the U.S. will do so on their own schedule, and there is little doubt that the U.S. will be attacked again and again and again.

Warrantless wiretapping which is authorized by any President (not just Bush) and which is not subject to oversight or review is dangerous. What if Bush or some future President decides to spy on political rivals that he/she, at his/her sole discretion and personal whim, deems a threat to the U.S. Please explain to me what process ensures that cannot happen. Trust and faith in the good intentions of individuals is not how the Constitution works. The founding fathers put in checks and balances because trust and faith provide no insurance against tyranny - it is how dictatorships arise.

There is no oversight. Briefing is not oversight. Any information that the President deems important enough to share with the select members of Congress currently cannot be discussed outside of the briefing. So Congress has no real say.

Look, if Hillary ever became president I would have the same opinion. Those of you who support warrantless wiretaps would have to allow her to do it also - or you would be a hypocrite. Then, what happens when the next President notches it up further? There is nothing to stop it from happening because we will be in this War on Terror forever.

As far as future attacks, we have unsecured borders and just this week saw a major failure in a test of our security. The GAO was able to bring in enough nuclear material for multiple dirty bombs using forged documents - the material was bound for Washington DC, no less. Our security is still horrible.

Oh boy.

I can't believe you think that briefing and taking them on tours at my lovely Ft. Meade is not oversight. You talk about how they couldn't do anything, YES THEY COULD! Follow a line out of the UCMJ. You only have to follow an order if it is legal. If they were so certain that this program was illegal, why would they be so worried about stopping something illegal? Basically you are saying that the Democrats briefed on the program, and did not speak, are just as bad as POTUS? You would have to throw the book at them as well; and Rockefellers cute stashed noted ain't good enough to get him out of it.

Do you have any concept whatsoever, the amount of classified material that is "eyes only"? It is essential to our defense as a country. And that went for Clinton and Bush. You just keep believing to yourself that nothing like this was authorized by Clinton. He did a ton of things wrong, including perjury, but I know of a few things he well. It didn't bother me that he was a Democrat and did them. I don't want his wife in the W.H. But if she is elected that is how the system works. I personally do want her to be able to run programs such as this. But that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that you don't want her to. Both you and I are pretty insignificant opinions when put up against the Constitution which does give POTUS those authorities.

"No, actually I don't think warrantless wiretapping has anything to do with not being attacked. After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 8 years passed without incident."

When you say stuff like that, those are the real things that worry me. Basically is what you are saying is that since we are going to be attacked that we shouldn't bother trying to stop it?

That guy only killed once, 8 years till he did it again.
That guy only raped once, 8 years till he did it again.
That guy only kidnapped once, 8...

We just kick back let them do it over and over. We fight that "more sensitive" war on terror? (I'd suggest the Presidential Nominee on the left side not go with that concept again.)

No, if there is a threat we use every possible tool to stop it.

It is not subject to oversight nor is it legal under current law, that is why REPUBLICANS are working to make it so.

There is no evidence whatsoever that warrantless wiretapping has done anything to stop terroris attacks. But by definition it takes away rights of citizens.

You implied that warrantless wiretapping is the reason we have not been attacked again. I pointed out that it was 8 years between attacks before. I simply answered your question with a reasonable response. Show me where I said we shouldn't try to prevent terrorist attacks.

If you want to race to the bottom, trash American civil liberties and freedoms, destroy the rule of law, all in the name of "fighting terrorism" that is your choice. It is not mine.

"There is no evidence whatsoever that warrantless wiretapping has done anything to stop terrorist attacks."
- The military and intelligence community is not run like a god damn political campaign. Some of the biggest successes are kept in the dark for years, if not decades. See, it is generally good to not let the enemy figure out how you are tracking them.

"But by definition it takes away rights of citizens."
- Really how so? I didn't realize that a phone conversation is such a massive right. It would appear it is a bigger right than civil rights these days (At least to those opposed to President Bush).

"You implied that warrantless wiretapping is the reason we have not been attacked again."
- I am not implying. It is not the sole reason, but one of them.

"Show me where I said we shouldn't try to prevent terrorist attacks."
- You are arguing that it is more important to have private phone conversations than to do everything to prevent attacks. Pretty simple.

"...that is your choice. It is not mine."
- Mine and between 60-70% of the American public.

mdconservative is waiting for when the Quakers get targeting objectives from bin laden. The only reason there is any noise about the NSA spy program is because it has gone way over the boundaries very carefully designed to be able catch terrorists and not abuse individual rights. Do you really think all this fuss would be made over just spying on the Quakers? Obviously, I guarantee you it is an unbelievable freak show behind the scenes.

5:18 PM, April 01, 2006
Blogger MDConservative said...

Obviously, you are not behind the scenes. So how is it that you guarantee it?

And for all the members of congress that have come to Fort Meade and ACTUALLY been behind the scenes, they don't seem to think so. The people making the most stink over everything are those who don't even know what is going on.

For example, you!

Having a phone conversation is a "privilege?" Who blesses us with this privilege? - Big Government? Or is it George Bush himself?

Why not just allow federal agents to conduct weekly in-home inspections without warrants of every American. We need to protect ourselves from terrorists. If you don't have anything to hide, it shouldn't be a problem.

Obviously, you have not read the 4th Amendment of the Constitution. Either that or you don't understand it.

Sorry mdconservative, butt, I am behind the scenes. I have been placing information all over the web to cover my butt and to apply pressure to your little friends campaign of terror. Your little friends play rough and nearly killed me a few years back. I bled internally for weeks and I have my own vendetta to pursue. You are to small to be in my way but it's been nice trash talking with you little satan worshippers. There is a truly magnificent battle going on behind the scenes constantly. It's to bad you can't be here to see and hear more.
bye bye my favorite little lemmings.

Anonymous,

We have taken your threats seriously. We have acquired your IP address, and will be thoroughly investigating you. The DHS takes these threats extremely seriously and it is a federal offense to threaten the government or the homeland of the United States of America you fucking douchebag. Keep your anti-American bullshit to yourself, nobody wants to hear you. You are a freak, and I personally think you have some mental issues that you need to get checked out. You call us satan worshipers, but what you didn't notice was the fact that America has the largest, orthodox Christian population of any developed nation, much more than Europe. The way you run your mouth on this site makes me believe that you are the only satan worshipping demon here. So please, take your sick sadistic comments to people who actually care about your demented, fucked up view towards life and the world.

With Love,

A Proud American

Masquerading as the department of homeland security is probably a serious federal offense. You are not with any government intelligence agency or you would know who I am.

Ah bravo jaggov tracking down the various I.P. adresses is part of the intel. The adresses were specifically chosen because of the businesses housed in them. I hope you have checked them out, they are all part of recording having passed on intelligence. They are " blue edge, waves, blenz yaletown, blenz business school, usr5084, trees, take 5, casa dolce,". You don't have to know why this information is here but I have provoked you to check out the numerous IP adresses I comment from. I left a trail purposefully all over the web.

Your D.O.D. knows all about me and if the vice president wanted to know the color of the underwear I'm wearing he'd have a response in under an hour. Yes I am on a watch list for exactly the reasons you have expressed. I was an asset that has made them look like the first three letters of the same word. I am waiting for an invitation to speak before the senate intelligence commitee.

You yanks have an odd way of behaving like so called Christians. Like you're not the first to hide behind the bible while they raid the world. You don't like the truth thats tough titty you so lacking in any witty.

Promoting that little weasel gonzales after he took the honor of devising ways around the Geneva Convention was very Christian of you. Abu Gharib was very Chritstian of you especially when you convicted the lowest people as scapegoats. Albert Louima in NYC jail, an innocent man given a plunger enema. It seems you military freaks have a fascination for sodomy. I cheer on deomocracy in it purest form and pray for GOD to toss an asteroid from Pluto to Kansas and give america the butt plug it so eagerly deserves.

You naziesque orwellian roveianlly genocidal american freak have been refered to as plutocratic fascists for more than the last fifty years. You may accept the corruption and deviancy as a cost of doing business. You are a dinosaur, no a lemming, no a paramecium turd, that cannot survive the information age.

If you think I am scared of the department of homeland security you are sadly misinformed. I am already supposed to be dead grasshopper. Threats to america? huh where did you read that. I don't like to see people die but I will gleefully cheer on mother nature or GOD knocking the snot out of you with tornadoes and hurricanes. IF you are scared by my beliefs then you must feel guity.
I mourn americas dead before they die. Idiots like yourself devalue americans lives to easily, so easy to stand up and get your _ss kicked. You've been talking when you should have been listening, garbage as usual, you satan worshipping yank. Do you remember Jesus Christ killing people first and asking questions later or is that a uniquely american twist on Christianity. Don't even begin to claim you are Christian.

I ain't anti american. I am anti naziesque orwellian roveianlly genocidal americans, plutocratic fascists, the military establishment, ultraneoconservative corporations and frauds masquerading as pilgrim evangelicals. If you support this style of democracy then you have much to fear.

You're going to wish you wouldn't have said that. We're gonna get the last laugh at you, you are a freak. What about America funding 75% of the United Nations, and the Bush Administration giving more aid to 3rd world countries that are struggling with AIDS and poverty, than any other country in the world?

It's people like you who make this world a shithole. At least President Bush has led a coalition to free 2 nations, offer people freedom they've never tasted, and allow women the ability to vote and run for political office, and it is already spreading to other countries. Kuwaiti women are running for political office for the first time ever, standing up for their rights, because George W. Bush made them realize that they dont have to put up with an oppressive regimes bullshit.

You don't like the spread of democracy, liberty and freedom? Too damn bad. Because it's only just begun.

Good for you the spread of democracy is wonderful. To bad we're not your willing slaves. Jaggovs like yourself who don't know the difference between democracy and plutocracy don't have the brains to conquer the world. Your entire country is based on lies and deviated from the original intentions of your constitution. If those are americas supposed best attributes then the rest of the world has much to fear. Jaggovs like yourself who don't have a clue about economics, jaggovs like you who think time began at 911 and fail to remember any of the previous billions of years of history.
Your media is absolutely naziesquely orwellian and roveianlly genocidal.

I am not thrilled by the media's latest attack on Christianity and you yanks are leading the way. The week began with Jesus walking on ice instead of water, new information and speculation on Mary, and now every channel has a five minute rotation on the da vinci nonsense and judas being a saint and a savior and a hero. You can call it freedom of expression. I believe the speculation is ridiculous, why the campaign right before Christians experience Easter, why every channel all running the same theory unopposed? Maybe you Christian geniuses can give us the explanation of what exactly the media is attempting to achieve other than inflaming peoples sensitivities.

You're in way over your head, everywhere.

I read the media everywhere. I am reading this blog's regular whacko murdering commentators and there is little rational truthful debate going on here. I pour over blogs and read the peoples opinions so once again jaggov you have no clue. I went to school and lived in america and I bet I've driven more of the country than any of your cowboy co writers. You must be seriously ultra neo conservative, plutocratic fascist,or military establishment to claim there is any liberal media in america. What part of the american media has ever been liberal. You have to be rich to own the media, you have to be rich to advertise in the media. If the media doesn't cater to the rich then they find themselves out of the media. I'm glad to see another brain dead red neck jump into the debate for morons, after all it is a republican blogsite, written for supporting half wit evil americans ridiculous propaganda. I mean really when you just plain get down to it you are all hard core evil andf proud of it. Plutocratic fascists who believe in cannibalizing their own. Rush Limbaugh is still around and you don't think his perspective is a mirror of public sentiment. Oreilly is another whose voice is loved by americans. The newspaper China Daily blogs in the english language has a more interesting discussion than you killers and slave drivers. You're all so hostile. You have never been interested in spirited debate. Any debate takes away the power from the liars and thieves in power. america could be a much much greater capitalist democracy, to bad your greed got in the way of your conscience, jaggov naziesque orwellian roveianlly genocidal americana. Hey and this same week the media in america claims Jesus Christ was a drunkard and the bastard son of a roman soldier. More beginings to spirited debate, huh, from whose point of view? satan worshipping american media.
