DEMOCRATS CAN'T WIN ON ISSUES SOOOOO - THE SUNDAY COMMENATRY

This has been a week that one would rather forget in American politics. The focus on the Mark Foley debacle has taken this election straight into the gutter of politics and taken the focus away from what elections are supposed to be fought over and voted on - the issues! Every time one would think that this disgusting blip in history would end, ABC would hit the airways with another e-mail or IM or find another page that they have known about for some time but by coincidence just now revealed prior to this election. No one can possibly believe with any resemblence of honesty in their thinking that the release of all of this information was not planned and carefully orchestrated to find its way to the press right before the November Mid - Terms. What Foley did is in itself disgusting and his admittance to a rehab center in an attempt to blame this preditory life style on achololism is a cowardly attempt to deny what he has become. He has been forced out of Congress and deserves any other punishments that may come to him. He is a disgrace to the Congress and this nation and his actions have brought a stain to the country that the world is seeing which angers me as an American regardless of political belief or ideas. What party this type of action comes from matters little in comparison to what was done by a sick and twisted man. Having said this now let's get back to the added disgust that last week in politics and what looks to be a continuation into this week is doing. First of all Foley is gone and rightly so. He alone is responsible for his disgusting actions and the blame for those actions rest on his shoulders and his shoulders alone. What his actions caused when revealed is another matter all together. We are only 30 days out from a very important Mid -Term election that will decide what course this nation will take for the next two years yet because of the political use of the Foley, "scandal, " by the Democrats and their all to willing accomplises in the maninstream media especially ABC the focus is not on the issues but on gutter politics and what is being deceptivly termed now as the, " House Page Scandal."

First if this were a, "House Page Scandal, " then it would involve many and not the disgusting acts of just one member of Congress. By calling this as a House scandal the press and the left are making an attempt to pin this on the GOP as a whole in order to decieve the American people into thinking that Republicans are all Foley's in disguise. This, "scandal, " involves one person who no longer resides in Congress. The leadership when the IM's were revealed immediatly took action and sought and recieved Foley's resignation then began the process of investigating what took place and setting into motion the necessary means for the investigation and finding answers to fix any problems within the system that are necessary.

Now where does this leave us. If this, "scandal, " had appeared at any other time than just prior to an election it would have lasted in the press a few days and then dropped off the scene until the investigation was completed then a short follow up story would appear with the results. Since we are so close to the Mid - Terms the Democrats have used this as the new focus and basis for their agenda - less campaign and once again are insulting the American voter by beleiving that we vote according to scandal and not issues. This proves as I have mentioned in many previous posts that the Demcorats realize that they cannot win an election on issues alone so as usual they will try to scandalize an election to attempt to sway voters whom they believe do not have the intelligence to see through their sceams. Calling for the resignation of Speaker Hastert and the GOP leadership in an attempt to , "scandalize, " the entire House by giving the impression that the Republicans are corrupt and yet another attempt to fall back on the Nancy Pelosi idea of , "The Culture of Corruption, " which has failed every time she has tried to use this issue - less idea. Additionally using the immoral aspects of what Foley did in an attempt to anger the GOP base enough to stay home instead of vote again emphasises that the Democrats cannot stand on the issues so they try to discourage GOP turn out. This again reveals that they do not understand conservatives and the core of beliefs that decides our vote. While what Foley did angers us from a moral stand point it does not decide why we vote nor what we vote for or against. Nor does it decide whether we vote or not. Issues make that decision and we vote in accordance to whom we believe will best serve our core beliefs. I will admit that the GOP has failed in many respects to act on those core beliefs that placed them in office in the first place. But for the Democrats to insult the conservative base by using this, "scandal, " to take the focus off of the issues and then actually believing that it will keep us from voting will back fire on them rather than help them as they believe. While angered at Foley the disgust that the base has for the insult of our intelligence that this attempt by the Democrats to discourage us from voting will only energize the base and cause better turn out at the polls.

Democrats we know who you are. We know that you intend to take back our tax cuts. We know that you intend to cut and run in Iraq. We know that you will attempt to defund the war effort and try to return this nation to the courts against the terror threat. We know that your economic ideas will slow and stagnate this growing economy. We know that you will try to take this country down a socialistic road that this nation does not want. While we are bothered by the GOP and how they have swayed from what we elected them for we also realize that when we speak in one voice as we have in the past they listen and the GOP though flawed offers the best hope for this countries future. Your issue - less, "scandalizing, " of this campaign is transparent to us and we will vote and we will NOT vote for you!

Ken, you seem to be arguing in the last paragraph that the Dems do have issues and ideas. People can vote on them. (I don't agree with how you frame them, but clearly they represent a difference).

The "scandal" you are referring to is an issue. If the House Republican Leadership knew they had a pedophile within their midst they had a responsbility to do something. We will learn more, but there are plenty of REPUBLICANS who are criticizing the Speaker and calling into question his veracity.

I am not sure who "we" are (the "we" you are referring to at the end of your post), but there are plenty of Americans who are fed up with the horrible policies of this president and the do-nothing enablers in Congress. We will see who wins out in the election, but the tide is rising against the Republicans in the House. I doubt the Senate will turn over. It really makes no difference what you or I say - the people will speak.

The Republicans will retain power. The Democrats have no substance, other than attacking the opposing side. I'm frustrated with the amount of RINOs we seem to have in office however.

Rob,"we, " is refering to the Dem leadership and DNC as weel as those elected who have vocalized what I wrote. My comments in the final paragraph are not based on issues but on statements that leading Dems have made desribiing what they would do if they controled the House. They have still not shown any viable agenda except what I mentioned at the end of the post and and attacking the GOP in attempts to scandalize the election. Agreed as time goes on the whole Foley debacle will come out some are already and much of it contradicts the initial reporting that ABC did as far as age of page etc. But as you said the results at the polls are all that counts regardless of ours or anyone else who speculates.

Highboy, I too am frustrated with the , "Rhinos, " that are in Congress especially their abandonment of the conservative platform that placed them in office, but the Dems would be disasterous in control and thus GOP is the best option for this nation as far as security in the war, stonger borders though both parties have failed on that but GOP is at least starting to make a move with the fence etc. Also the GOP will keep the economy moving!

This president and his congress have taken the national debt from $5.7 trillon to $8.5 trillion. They have added $1 trillion in debt that is owned to foreigners. We have to pay that back with interest.

They have increased government spending from $1.7 trillion to $2.8 trillion per year.

We now have $250-$350 billion budget deficits for as far as the eye can see. When Clinton left office we had a $243 billion budget surplus.

For the first time since the Great Depression, the savings rate of Americans is negative. With the slowing housing market things are not looking so hot. The fact is that the economy is clearly slowing not humming along.

Those are facts, believe them or not, but they are facts and reality.

The economy is booming Rob. Those are not facts. The real facts are

1. Factory production is strong.
2. Core inflation is down.
3. In the third quarter, real consumer spending is running 3.2 percent at an annual rate, ahead of the second quarter average.
4. Non-defense capital-goods shipments (excluding aircraft) are 7.6 percent ahead of the second quarter.
5. After-tax real disposable income is 5.4 percent higher than last year.
6. And tax revenues are rolling in, with both states and the U.S. Treasury reporting record revenue collections

Rising stocks, falling gas prices, low tax rates, all say positive for this administration an Congress. There is also the more pressing issue of national security, which is constantly undermined by the Democratic Party, otherwise we'd see even more progress in that regard, which I admit, I find more pressing than the wallet.

Under Clinton, we had a rising stock market, lower gas prices, and for 96 percent of Americans virtually the same tax burden as we do today. The difference was that we were paying down debt, had created huge budget surpluses, and were improving the country's overall fiscal position.

It is clear you have no understanding of deficits or the debt.

If I take all of my credit cards and max them out and go on vacation to Hawaii things will look great for a short period of time. The problem is that I still have to pay off that debt. You would call me irresponsible for doing so, but that is exactly what Bush has done. He has borrowed heavily from the Japanese, Chinese, and OPEC nations to pay for his policies.

Look up the stats for the last several years on the following treasury websites:

Debt - http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdpdodt.htm

Foreign holders of U.S. debt (2006) - http://www.treas.gov/tic/mfh.txt

Foreign holders of U.S. debt (2000-2005) - http://www.treas.gov/tic/mfhhis01.txt

Please don't tell me that you think that the U.S. will just print more money. We have to pay back our debt with interest and that money comes from tax collection. As interest rates continue to rise - the interest that we will pay will rise also. Right now, we pay about $350-$400 billion a year in INTEREST on the national debt. That is with historically low interest rates, which won't last. Bush will walk away, but the American people will have to pay back the record debt he has added to the national debt.

The entire conspiratorial right wing media is busy trying to present Foley as some society serving angel and it is the farthest from the truth. I find it typical that not one media outlet has had a behavioral scientist or psychologist to interpret and evaluate Foley's behavior. They drag every old friend and his mother to present a nice compassionate package to cover for a pedophile. He is a member of the political bloodsport where being spotless is essential and yet he is so brazen in his attempted come ons. Obviously he has no fear of repurcussions in the environment he chose to be predatorial in. The likelihood that he has indeed had sex with underage males is one reason why there is no critical analysis by experts in the field, damming condemnation. The lengths gone to to cover up and pardon his behavior have ramifications for every sexual deviant in America to follow the example and hope for leniency when they are caught. His condoned covered up behavior is inspirational for other sexual deviants to justify their own behavior. The only reason he hasn't been tarred and feathered like certain other celebrities is because he's a republican politician. Disgusting is one of the few words I am allowed to use here and wholly inadequate. He doesn't need to be tortured but there is some examination and explanation necessary on the environment that seems to condone and accept as Washington normal behavior.

That's ridiculous. The entire right wing mediasphere have demanded Foley's head. We hold our leaders accountable. Democrats make excuses for theirs.

Dude, economic growth is slowing - quite dramatically - and the projections are for further slowing.

http://bea.gov/bea/newsrel/gdpnewsrelease.htm

Inflation is also rising. And the projections are not positive.

http://www.clevelandfed.org/research/inflation/us-inflation/index.cfm

The economic forecasts for the U.S. are not good. However, our national debt growth is exploding. I am still waiting to get your opinions based on the stats I cited above.

Highboy, do you understand basic economics? If we do nothing we usually end up with 2-3 percent GDP growth. The problem is that the economic growth is slowing dramatically.

If you look historically, there is very rarely contraction in the economy:
http://bea.gov/bea/dn/gdpchg.xls

When you have a slowing economy with rising debt and rising inflation, you force the Fed to raise interest rates. These factors also set up recession. That is exactly where we are heading.

I never seen anyone moron so excited to replace the GOP with terrorist-appeasing, intern-screwing, furniture stealing cowards. At least no we didn't drown any prostitutes.

"It doesn't take much effort to discover some of the policy initiatives being championed by democrats: universal healthcare,"

Which is why countries like Canada are on the verge of economic collapse, and why all their doctors have come to America, so they can actually get paid. Check the wait time for a doctor's appointment under Canada's universal healthcare system and get back to me. Basically what you're saying is that the Dems ideas are communism/socialism, which is why they can't/still won't get elected.

Where do you get your info on the Canadian economy and its health care system?

The Canadian economy is on the verge of collapse? Where are you getting your info? The Canadian dollar has been rising in value in recent years. As a major oil producer for the world they are doing just fine. They hold $42 billion of the U.S. national debt up from $14 billion in 2000.

As for their health care system, why do you suppose that Americans want to import prescription drugs from Canada?

Highboy - just do a little research and you will see how ridiculous your comments are.

Rob: I did my research, I live in Canada. Thanks for coming out. The wait time for a doctor's appointment spans months, not days. Children die in the waiting room of E.R's every flu season. They have a shortage of doctors because they all hopped the border to the states where they can actually get paid. There are four hospitals right here in New Brunswick they can't even deliver babies. Ontario, the province where all the money is, is 10-20 years behind the rest of Canada when it comes to healthcare. Sounds like you're the one that needs to do some research.

7:45 AM, October 13, 2006

You are talking about much the same problems in the U.S. Doctors cannot afford their insurance premiums and are quitting. Many hospitals are losing money. There are hospitals that won't perform certain procedures. The hospital that delivered my youngest child no longer takes my insurance, so if I have an emergency I have to drive 15 miles instead of 2 to get to another hospital. Many doctors no longer take Medicare/Medicaid patients because the government rates are too low. I have to make an appointment for a checkup with my doctor 2 months in advance.

What is the difference? The per capita spending on health care in Canada is about 25-35 percent less than in the U.S. That is why we are moving to private managed care and HMOs - very much like it is in Canada.

Now tell me why you think the Canadian economy is on the brink of collapse.

Because the Legislative Assembly of Ontario makes it the platform of every meeting.

Rising Canadian dollar:

Canada has had solid GDP growth. It has a current account surplus as opposed to the huge deficit in the U.S. They also have a very low national debt relative to the U.S. Read up about the Canadian economy yourself.

If you think the mainstream media went after foley in the least bit go over to satans desk and hand in your infantile lemming paramecium i.d. card. Little lying totally clueless pre pre adults need to have mommy put you over her knee. America`s economy jumped off the cliff along time ago. The wonderful sensation you think you feel is created by the thermal of hot air blowing up your ass. In no time the temperature is going to cool and your terminal velocity will increase. The DOW is up maybe 100 points from where it was in the year 2000. Lets face it highboy is like one of the six former NAZI members that had to resign their positions in the GOP in 1988. Canada`s economy is guaranteed to make significant returns and America`s only reason they are even mildly growing is the near 0% borrowing rates highboy will never see again in his lifetime. At least Canadian health care isn`t tied to infanticidal policies of executive compensation on top of the regular wages. Highboy is an instigator, an idiot and infantile. Do us all a favor and go back to school, someplace other than America. Plutocratic fascist naziesque orwellian roveianlly infanticidal americana hard at work cannibalizing everybody and everything. The closest I came was the word "troll" which is blogolingo for someone who comments and insults under the name "anonymous". Thanks for coming out mudd.
