DEMOCRATS / 9-11 COMMISSION - ANOTHER FALSE CAMPAIGN PROMISE

Once again proving that when campaigning Democrats say one thing and when elected do another, the new Congressional House leadership has backed off of their campaign promise to , "fully implement, " all of the 9/11 Commission recommendations. Repeatedly as a stab at the GOP and President Bush, House Democrats especially Speaker to be Nancy Pelosi continually pounded the pledge that if Democrats were to gain the majority in the House all of the Commission recommendations would be implemented immediatly and without question. Now that they have the majority, House leaders are balking on the implementation of a key Commission recommendation calling for a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation's intelligence agencies. Instead, Democrat leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations. Democrats also pounded the GOP during the campaign concerning Congressional oversight yet when having the opportunity to turn the mirror on themselves, the Dems balk at it also. "Of all our recommendations, strengthening congressional oversight may be among the most difficult and important," the panel wrote. "So long as oversight is governed by current congressional rules and resolutions, we believe the American people will not get the security they want and need." What is boils down to is that Democrats on the Appropriations Committee and the Armed Services Committee do not want to yield some of their power to the Intelligence Committee which is what the Commission recommended. Yet during the campaign this is one of the many promises that Democrats pledged to follow and now that the time has come to begin fulfilling those promises they once again have become only a blast of hot air for the sake of gaining votes and winning elections. For all of the, "changes, " that Nancy Pelosi promised with the new direction under Democrat leadership as time for that leadership approaches it looks more like political business as usual.

Saw this and responded on another site.

But let me ask you this; why hasn't the Bush administraion implimented ANY of the 9/11 Commision recommendations?

Ken, the Republicans are still in charge and will be for 7 more weeks. If it makes the country safer, Republicans can still work to implement the changes.

Why don't you wait until the Dems actually take control? Who knows what the Dems will ultimately do? I am sure there is a lot of backroom dealing right now, but they may very well make changes. They cannot do anything right now anyway because they are not in charge. We'll have to see what they do when they take office.

"ANY of the 9/11 Commision recommendations?"

Oh please!

Ken: Democrats are already backsliding into the good old days when they exempted Congress from the rules which govern the rest of us.

And if anyone wonders why the GOP didn't enact the full 9/11 panel recommendations, just ask the Democrats who would have filibustered it in the Senate.

I didn't say the full recommendations, the Bushies didn't enact a single recommendation.

As usual, Mike has provided a nonsensical post that brings a smile to my face. I must say, he is quite entertaining.

So Mike, the Republicans were so afraid of the minority Dems in the Senate that they chose not to even try to implement the 9/11 Commission recommendations? That is a good one. Man, you must really think that the Republican majority is weak.

If you are actually being serious, please enlighten us Mike, just why do you believe that the Dems would have filibustered it in the Senate? I would love to hear your explanation.

It's a case of ideology before logic.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your dust mite problem. You may want to hire a service to keep your house cleaner. If that doesn't work, hire an exterminator.

Vintage Mike. No relevant response, just some childish name calling.

Let's think about how utterly ludicrous Mike's excuse for the Republican leadership in the Senate not voting on the 9/11 Commission recommendations truly is. That would mean that Frist was "brave" enough to call Senators back from their home states for a special session of the Senate to discuss Terri Shiavo, but he was so afraid of the big bad Dems that he refused to call for a vote on important national security legislation. The idea is so obviously inane it is hilarious.

Mike, I don't seriously expect you to defend or even try to explain your ridiculous suggestion. But, I do enjoy how instead of remaining silent or admitting your mistake, you regress to an elementary school level and revert to name-calling. It just shows how insecure and intellectually stunted you truly are.

We Republicans finaly have a chance to say "We Told You So"

The Democrats are throwing more people overboard in thier own party and breaking more promises than I have ever seen out of an elected party before they are even sworn in!

Grab some popcorn this is going to be an exciting 2 years!
