IRAQ LOST ? NOT HARDLY - THE SUNDAY COMMENTARY

There is an extremely dangerous thought being expressed in the media, liberal circles and in the commentary of a few GOP publicity seekers who bend to the whims of popular political fancy rather than the full truth and the core of beliefs that make conservatism the base of the GOP. That dangerous mind set is that we have lost in Iraq. What is so totally mind boggling in this idea is that nothing could be further from the truth but in their willingness to buy into this idea because it is becoming politically expedient and popular with the main stream media the very expression of this idea and the implementation of policy suggestions that stem from this idea could bring about its reality as the final end in Iraq. Negativism toward Iraq has assisted in creating the problems that currently exist because it has caused a hesitancy in making the full and necessary commitment to finishing the job and completing the mission of defeating the terrorist element in Iraq and calming the insurgency thus allowing the Iraqis the freedom to iron out their governmental differences in accordance to the will of the people who have voted for a free Democracy in Iraq. It is a proven fact that political discord can and does tie the hands of the military since it creates a lack of political will to free the military to do its job. Disagreeing with any administration is a right and privilege that we have as Americans which has been a cornerstone of our Republic since its birth. Yet with the Iraq situation there has been a political agenda not so much against the war as against the President continually expounded by the media, liberal politicians and the anti- war for anti-wars sake crowd that has clouded the truth of what is happening in Iraq so much that it has actually assisted in shaping US policy from the all out completion of the mission to that of one that is hesitant to use the full capabilities that we have and is now considering negotiation with the very elements who have been working to prevent a free and independent Iraq. Those who are opposed to President Bush have used Iraq as a means to politically damage his Presidency and as such created the perception that Iraq is a complete disaster and either lost or on the verge of losing. Yet according to the very men and women who are on the ground and in country just the opposite is true and the majority are dumbfounded as to why their accomplishments and the true nature of the situation in Iraq is not being told to the American people. The total intentional neglect of even the slightest mention of any success in Iraq and the complete preoccupation of the left and the media as well as certain publicity hounds within the GOP in only reporting body counts or roadside bombings has created the misconception in the mind of the American public that Iraq is a total lost cause and we do not have the capability to turn it around.

Had this same type political discord and agenda based media reporting been evident during WWII even with the popularity of the war the resolve of the American people would have faded which would have brought about a failure of the political will to fight the war to the full and complete surrender of both Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. While favor for the war had many dips in popularity with the American people as reports of American losses weighed on the countries conscience the reports of victories and accomplishments by the military not only continually rallied the country in their support but also gave the political will to back policy and support the war to its final and ultimate conclusion the defeat and total surrender of Germany and Japan. The devastation of Pearl Harbor gave the American resolve to enter the war but the continual success and accomplishments of our military and the reporting thereof gave this nation the ability to back the war and stand true to its cause until the final victory.

With freedom of speech comes responsibility. This not only applies to the individual but to the press and the politicians who exercise that Constitutional right. Many of the politicians who are continually denouncing the President and the war have never set foot in Iraq, talked with a soldier nor been part of policy and military decisions and as such speak without knowledge of the REAL situation just from an agenda. Even the highly touted Iraq Study Group whose report is as useless as paper bullets only visited Iraq for a brief one day visit and never left the green zone in Baghdad. The media chooses to turn a blind eye to any report of accomplishment or success in Iraq and select to report death and destruction only thus rendering the American public to make an uneducated decision about Iraq based only upon negativism. The successes and accomplishment have far out weighed the problems yet agenda based politicians and media outlet's paint a completely different picture. Iraq is not lost nor are we losing but the seeds of that loss are being planted by the very agendas that are being expressed and even considered in shaping future policy. Even Collin Powell suggested last week that a full military commitment with 500, 000 troops and completely closing the borders with Iran and Syria would end sectarian violence and terrorism in Iraq and allow the government there to accomplish its full development into a Democracy. Yet those who are shaping policy are calling for negotiation with terrorist states redeploying troops and even suggesting that Israel give up territory to appease Arab states and ease tension in the region to bring about a free Iraq. This political agenda sounds like Europe in the late 1930's and the appeasement which allowed Hitler to overrun the entire continent. History is our greatest teacher and not learning from it is our greatest mistake. Following the course that is being suggested in Iraq will give Iran the same capability to overrun the Middle East as similar appeasement gave Germany to overrun Europe. We cannot allow history to repeat itself only with different names and faces. Iraq is winnable and it can be done without appeasement and negotiation with terror states. It takes political will and the resolve of this nation to see it through allowing the military the full capability to complete its mission and the Iraqi government the safety to finalize and iron out their Democracy. To the President I say make the full commitment and complete the job. It is time to raise the famous "V" for victory sign as Winston Churchill did in WWII.

Ken Taylor

Appendum posted 12/18 - The suggestion that I mentioned by Collin Powell concerning increasing troop numbers to 500,000 and closing the Iran and Syria borders was made by Powell about a year ago. It is being reported today that Powell is backing off of this and stating that he does not favor more troops and is in favor of negotiating with Iran. While I still agree with his assesment from last year I am in complete disagreement with his suggestion that is in today's headlines as I believe I have made obvious in this and earlier posts - Ken

We don't have the troops to close the borders and stop the civil war. Even if we did and the American people thought it worthwhile for our troops to be the referee in a civil war, what is the point of propping up the pro-Iranian, corrupt Maliki government?

Our soldiers are not fighting al Qaeda in Iraq - they are acting as policemen and referees in a foreign land that cannot bridge its own political divides.

Ken (or someone else), please explain to me how defending the current Shiite government in Iraq serves our interests w/respect to Iran. The ties between Maliki, Sadr, Talabani, Sistani, etc. and Iran are extremely strong.

Iraq is a mess that has no good options for the U.S. Bush totally blew it. What is winning in Iraq at this point?

Good job Ken and exactly right. To cut and run now would be an insult of the highest order to those brave men and women that gave their lives.

There is no room for Democratic talking points here. We committed our troops, and we need to let them finish the job.

And there was political discord in the lead up to and during WW2. W.R. Hurst was an isolationist, remember?

Rob, al Qaeda is in Iraq. Hezbollah is in Iraq. Iran is supporting groups in Iraq. Saudi Arabia is supporting groups in Iraq. It is Islamic revolutinary Grand Central Station in Iraq.

Rob, you make is sound that it is in a foreign land, but the outcome will have a direct empact on this nation. If Iran is empowered, then America is closer to facing terrorism on a large scale at home. Here is why:

The Islamic Republic of Iran's Constitution mandates they export Islamic Revolution -- you know the stuff we call terrorism. They have been working on doing this since 1979 when Jimmy Carter gave them the keys to hell. They are supporting groups in Afghanistan working against the United States. They are supportin Hezbollah and Hamas. They are supporting groups in the Sudan.

The idea that the out-come in Iraq will not affect this nation is a dream made of ignorance. Iran continues to pursue nuclear WEAPONS. Yes weapons, why else does their peaceful nuclear program have ties to the military the IAEA says can not be explained. Why else did Iran bulldoze an entire site before permitting nuclear inspectors in the examine the site? Why did the IAEA discover enrichment equipment hidden in an agriculture research station?

Iran has proposed a world without America. Iran has proposed a world without Israel. Iran has offered to supply missiles to Hugo Chavez. We can contain Iran today or we can face a horrible war later. My co-blog-author is an Iranian who escaped Iran as a child. She reads Farsi and has unique insights.

Iran advocates a new world order, one-world, a monetheistic world, with one God, Allah. They believe suicide martrdom is an art and an acceptible means to expand the Islamic revolution.

It is critical that this nation quit listening to simply tiny sound bytes and get the real news about what is going on in the Middle East.

Great Post Ken,

It's a damn shame we have Moron's like John Kerry visiting the middle east right now taking pot shot's at our President on foreign soil which amount's to Treason!

I agree, I wish that everyone would just shut the **** up and let the Troops finish thier job like THEY want to!

Where are the Swift Boat Vet's when you really need them?

I hope when Kerry get's around to visiting the Troops, they find a way to get his idiot ass stuck in Iraq!

We need to flood the MSM with letters DEMANDING they start balancing thier reporting with some good news coming from Iraq instead of all the crap they show. I think the American public is getting sick to death of this crap.

And it just kills the Left Wing Lunatic's that there isnt a draft, and that this is an ALL Volunteer Military, and at this point EVERYONE who is serving having signed up after 9-11, and re-enlisted since 9-11 said "Send Me", because those Brave Troops know what's at stake.

V seems to not only stand for Victory these day's but Volunteer also!

First in case you missed it in the comment section of the previous post, "Kevron, " is being deleted from any comment made at this site. While most of you know that I am one who does not deny or shun from commenting by any point of view and encourage energetic debate from both sides, "Kevron, " crossed a line when he stated that, "we, " will continue to kill Jews. I came close to this when he stated that he was in favor of more deaths of our soldiers as a way to make political points as a liberal but thought only that in his ignorance he was ranting. When he made the anti-semite statement combined with his previous death wish for our soldiers he crossed the line. Arguing with him only eggs him on so if he posts please ignore him. Freedom of speech also requires responsibility for that speech and he obviously does not understand the meaning of responsible. Thanks.

Rob, We have enough in uniform around the world well over 2 million if I am not mistaken to increase the number significantly and the military capability to close the borders with men, drones etc. It is not necessarily to support any current government but to completely secure the country from insurgent, terrorist and intervention from Iran and Syria. Then it is up to the Iraqis to iron out their government in accordance to the will of the people, If Iran controls Iraq they will have the first step in controling the region which cannot happen.

Mudkitty, I am not advicating stay the course. We have meandered in Iraq and now is the time to use the ability that we have to end the violence and secure the country and stop trying to appease ever petty Islamic terror state and finish the job. You have mentioned several times the comparisson of our stength in WWII and the success that it brought. We are many time over stronger now than then and can move with swift and strong force to secure the country and with enough power to possibly do it without having to fire one shot. Example, one Nimitz class carrier has more fire power than all but two countries the Brits and US. By the way check out the appendum at the end of the post that I added today.

Marie, Thanks as always and you are correct Kerry only visited to try and get himself out of the political dog house because of his stupid statement about the troops during the campaign. He will most likely use this visit also to rant on the Senate floor in a similar way about the troops as he did in Committee in 1974 which brought out the Swift Boat Vets in the 04 election.

Wordsmith, Thanks for the nod!

Roxie, great points.

HinzSight, thanks as always

Roxie - wow, blaming the Iranian mess on Jimmy Carter. That is a good one. Ask your co-author about the CIA's installation of the Shah and how his oppressive regime directly led to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism.

You do also realize that the current government in Iraq - the one our soldiers are dying for - is closely aligned with Iran. In fact, more closely aligned than to Bush and U.S. interests.

I know there is al Qaeda in Iraq - but the violence that exists is overwhelmingly sectarian strife that has nothing to do with al Qaeda.

Ken - we simply don't have the troops. That is why the Pentagon admitted as much last week and is pushing to increase the size of the Army and Marines. Even if we could (which we cannot currently do), there is no way that we are going to send 500,000 American troops into the civil war that is Iraq.

Winnable or not, fact is if we desert Iraq we are simply handing it, and a victory, to the bad guys. We are losing the war. Not the one in Iraq. The one at home. People on the left is throwing blame around without any serious specifics to back it up. Think about this. How dangerous is it for civilization if we were to just give up and walk away. The Muslim countries don't want peace with Israel. They want Israel annihilated. Iran and Syria does not want democracy in Iraq. They want the country to be used as a training ground for terrorism. Until the left realizes this, we will continue to lose the war at home, and if the war is lost in the states, we will be powerless to win anywhere else.

Ken: I see we are thinking along parallel lines. The defeatist wave is cresting. And I venture to say if we had a revote of the 2006 Congressional elections the outcome would be different as most voters now understand that Democrats would surrender as fast as you can say "Patriot Act."

Oh and I see your resident moonbats are enjoying themselves. Well, if nothing else, it's proof we live in a country great enough and strong enough where people are free to delude themselves and indulge their prejudices and ignorance.

Blogger Rob said...

Mike, if we had a revote (which is a silly idea, but I will humor you), I agree that the results would be different. Dems would have an even larger majority in both houses of Congress. Bush has lower approval numbers and the Iraq War is even more unpopular than it was a month ago.

The war's "unpopularity" in America can be laid squarely at the feet of ambitious Democrat politicians and the liberal MSM, not on any kind of balanced and unbiased reporting. To deny this would be totally ludicrous, unless one got all ones "information" from sources like The New Republic and the NYT, then it would merely be ignorance.

When people only get negative propaganda from their "news" sources and the more vocal half of their politicians, what can one expect?

Negative propaganda? Just substitute the words "republican" for "democrat" and "positive propaganda" for negative propaganda, and you have the recipie for disaster that is Iraq.

It aint no PR propaganda disaster either. It's a real, honest to god, life and death situation, while Bushie & Co. dither.

You don't take the advice of the people who got you into a quagmire, as to how to get out of a quagmire. You take the advice of the people who were right all along, not wrong about everything.

And just which right wing nut-bag declared we are now winning in Iraq? As what? Policemen? You people need to brainwash a few hundred million more to sway the population over to your *side*.

Put down you king george kool-aid glasses for just a moment please.

Consider this and hum along if it makes you feel warmer and fuzzier..

Let's say that 30,000,000 people voted in this person they call our president, who now believes himself to be the steward, the decider and the ruler of the world, ...of 6,000,000,000 people.. The math clearly shows that 0NE HALF of ONE PERCENT of the population is forcing their version of life, of 'freedom and democracy', aggressively on the other 99.5% of the population of this planet~!

And if you dont like our 'version' of the pursuit of hapiness, and you dont like us telling you how to live, then we will bomb your country into submission.. until you do..

Invade, Kill, Bomb, Depose, Destroy, (in the name of peace of course), and that pesky national security, oh and maybe an Exxon station or 12.

Please read thoroughly the CONSERVATIVE AGENDA of GLOBAL DOMINATION at the Project for the New American Century at:

http://www.newamericancentury.org/...

While your there, read who authored this fine piece of *work*.

They at the PNAC finally found a president dumb enough to progress their agenda, lock, stock and with both smoking barrels!!

Onward christian conservative soldier!! You have 99% of 6 billion lives to destroy, convert, demean and dehumanize so you must hurry, you are wasting precious time... only after that amount of vast, utter destruction will conservative views be considered 50% of the populace.

Next Government please! Let's try Peace, Libertarian style...
